Leak Detection Harrow

Harrow is dominated by the semis and mock-Tudor detached houses built along the Metropolitan line between the wars, with Wealdstone and parts of Harrow Weald holding older terraces and the hill itself carrying some very large period houses. What the interwar stock has in common is a side path and, very often, an attached or detached garage. Over the decades a great many of those garages were converted into a utility room, a shower room or an extra bedroom, and the incoming supply or a section of pipework frequently ended up running through them. The awkward version of that at night is a shut-off valve now sitting in a converted garage that locks separately, with the key on a hook inside the house nobody thought to check. Which door opens what is a useful thing to know before you need it. The hill and its surrounding streets sit noticeably higher than the rest of the borough, and properties towards the top can run at lower mains pressure than those below. Systems in those houses are often tank-fed rather than mains-fed for that reason, which changes where a leak can come from and, importantly, means closing the incoming stop tap does not necessarily stop the water already stored above the ceiling.
